L'album si apre con una breve "Amazing Grace (In Memory of...)" con il suono di un uomo con gli speroni che cammina sul pavimento prima che la cadenza della famosa canzone parta e l'uomo si allontani rapidamente passando all'unica cover, "Take the Highway", scritta da Toy Caldwell e originariamente registrata dalla Marshall Tucker Band, che stabilisce il tema dell'album mentre la persona si mette in viaggio citando "Questo è un posto in cui non posso stare. I ricordi del tuo amore indugiano". La storia si sposta sulla canzone che dà il titolo all'album, un racconto della crescita di un pistolero del Vecchio West.
