Sette anni sono trascorsi dal 2080, quando Pluto Nash (Murphy) ha rilevato - accollandosene i debiti e salvandolo da morte sicura per mano del suo creditore malavitoso (Young) - il locale del povero Tony Frankowski (Mohr). Grazie alla sua gestione intelligente e alle giuste amicizie, Nash ha trasformato il "Pluto" in uno dei ritrovi più in voga di Little America, la nuova Las Vegas costruita sulla Luna, ma il suo successo risveglia l'interesse del misterioso Rex Creighton, capo della mafia locale, il quale formula - attraverso l'ambiguo tirapiedi Mogan (Pantoliano) - la classica offerta di acquisto che non si può rifiutare. Pluto però non si piega, neanche di fronte ad un devastante attentato dinamitardo, ed ingaggia con i sicari dell'invisibile boss una lotta senza quartiere, aiutato dal fido Bruno (Quaid), un antiquato robot-guardia del corpo, dalla bella Dina Lake (Dawson), cameriera-cantante appena assunta, e dalla agguerrita mamma Flura (Grier)...
