Jessie è pronta a fare il grande passo: andare a vivere assieme al suo fidanzato col figlio che aspetta in grembo, creando così una famiglia, ma i progetti non vanno come previsto. Jessabelle "Jessie" Laurent is pregnant and agrees to move to her boyfriend's house to raise their own family. They get into a car accident; her boyfriend and baby die. Jessie survives but is seriously wounded, seriously grieving, and trapped in a wheelchair. The director of the hospital suggests that she contact her estranged father to help her, and Leon Laurent takes his daughter to his home in Louisiana and lodges her in her mother's room.
