Sconvolto da questa rivelazione ed essendo profondamente religioso cerca un contatto negli ambienti della Chiesa Cattolica perché lo sterminio venga fermato. Conosce così il giovane gesuita padre Riccardo che è ben introdotto in ambito vaticano. La speranza sta nella parola del Papa che denunci l'abominio. Ma Pio XII, per salvare i cattolici di Austria e Germania, deciderà di tacere.
