l 2025 segna 40 anni da quando Ricky Ross incontrò Dougie Vipond e iniziarono a formare i Deacon Blue, le canzoni di "The Great Western Road" riflettono il viaggio che la band ha intrapreso e rimangono fedeli all'età e all'esperienza che condividono. Ricky Ross: "È solo la parte successiva dell'avventura ed è emozionante ora come lo era nel 1988". Il gioioso singolo principale "Late '88" ricorda con affetto l'eccitazione spensierata di quei primi giorni. "The Great Western Road" è stato registrato nei leggendari Rockfield Studios, Ricky Ross e (chitarrista dei Deacon Blue e collaboratore di lunga data) Gregor Philp tornano ai doveri di produzione, avendo prodotto per ultimo la classifica Top 5 della band e il loro ultimo album completo, "City Of Love" del 2020. Questo album è stato registrato da Matt Butler, che ha lavorato per la prima volta con la band nel loro debutto, "Raintown".
