Un tempo considerata una registrazione in studio perduta da tempo di John Lee Hooker, The Standard School Broadcast Recordings è la prima pubblicazione commerciale di una rara registrazione del 1973 di una band di blues completamente elettrica. Eseguita direttamente su nastro presso Coast Recorders a San Francisco, la sessione cattura Hooker in un momento tumultuoso e profondamente trasformativo della sua carriera, accompagnato dalla sua affidabile sezione ritmica di riserva del bassista Gino Skaggs e del batterista Ken Swank, oltre al figlio pianista di Hooker, Robert. Ridotta per presentare solo una breve intervista e frammenti di canzoni nella sua corsa scolastica iniziale, questa raccolta presenta l'intera sessione di registrazione, comprese le note di copertina estese del preminente studioso di Hooker Charles Shaar Murray.
