Dopo un decennio di registrazioni generalmente intriganti, il pianista Abdullah Ibrahim trovò davvero la sua voce all'inizio degli anni '70. Il suo lungo set da solista del 18 febbraio 1973 fu pubblicato come coppia di LP Sackville (Sangoma e African Portraits). Una selezione a testa dai due album è stata raggruppata con l'inedito "Salaam Peace" per formare questo disco. Ibrahim si sente in tre lunghi medley; i migliori sono "African Portraits" e "Fats, Duke & the Monk", anche se Fats Waller (che è rappresentato solo da un breve "Honeysuckle Rose") riceve poca considerazione in quest'ultimo. Gli appassionati assoli di Ibrahim (che a volte sono uniti alle sue grida verbali) sono pittoreschi, episodici e assolutamente affascinanti in questo set, anche se l'Africa antica in realtà prende il sopravvento.TRACK LIST
