Il dispotico ras (Hackman) di Redemption organizza un torneo a eliminazione di sedici duelli alla pistola. Vince, cioè sopravvive, il più veloce (the Quick), l'altro è morto (the Dead). Si spara al primo rintocco dell'orologio nel campanile. S. Raimi, il più mattacchione tra i giovani registi americani che praticano l'horror in salsa gore , e il suo operatore Dante Spinotti esauriscono tutto il repertorio tecnico (zoomate, panoramiche a schiaffo, rallentatore, carrelli vertiginosi, dolly, inquadrature sghembe, effetti anamorfici) in questo ricalco parodistico dello "spaghetti-western". S. Stone, anche produttrice, è una star il cui alfabeto d'attrice va per ora dalla A alla C. Similwestern che vola basso. Troppo piombo sulle ali.
