C'era esattamente una costante nella carriera di David Bowie: la reinvenzione senza fine. In effetti, il corpo di lavoro del visionario postmoderno è un labirinto specchiato di esperimenti audaci e personaggi sovversivi. Tra il 1969 e il 1984, ha sputato fuoco diretto, bruciando malinconico folk cosmico, glam turbolento, soul funky e pop elettronico che ha contribuito a dare il via alla rivoluzione post-punk. La gamma vocale di Bowie era altrettanto ampia. In “Ziggy Stardust” ha scatenato un feroce urlo punk; "Heroes", in netto contrasto, mette in luce un crooner esperto nell'arte del romanticismo freddo e distaccato.
