:: Trama ::
Il jumbo che sta portando uno Shuttle in Gran Bretagna, esplode misteriosamente. M, il capo del servizio segreto inglese, sospettando che tutto sia opera di Hugo Drax, un megalomane miliardario, invia James Bond in California per indagare. Accolto dalla pilota Corinne Dufour, l'agente 007 ottiene informazioni dalla graziosa guida ma la perde definitivamente poichè Drax la fa sbranare dai cani. Bond ha scoperto un indirizzo e si reca a Venezia dove, vincendo le insidie del cinese Chang, non riesce a mettere nel sacco il Drax; ma ottiene la prova che sta preparando un terribile gas, micidiale per gli uomini e non per le bestie o per le piante. Sempre inseguendo Drax, James Bond raggiunge Rio de Janeiro. Qui i pericoli maggiori li corre per via di Squalo, un gigante dalla dentiera di metallo; ma un valido appoggio l'ottiene da Holly Goodhead, intelligente e bella agente della CIA. I due scoprono che la vera base segreta di Drax è tra le foreste del Sudamerica, in una antichissima città. Vi penetrano e svelano l'arcano: Hugo Drax ha una base spaziale dalla quale intende eliminare tutta l'umanità per crearne una a "modo suo" per mezzo di coppie diligentemente scelte e addestrate per la vita iniziale negli spazi. Non demordendo, Bond e Holly raggiungono la base spaziale e la distruggono con due espedienti: fanno capire a Squalo che è condannato a morte e lo volgono contro Drax; annullano gli schermi radar e invitano le forze USA a intervenire.
