Premessa: ci troviamo in una realtà popolata da brutali assassini, una realtà in cui personaggi come Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger e Jason Voorhees sono realmente esistiti e le loro imponenti figure fanno ombra sui serial killer pronti ad emergere.
E’ così che vive Leslie Vernon, aspirante assassino di massa deciso ad entrare nella storia. E in un epoca in cui i reality show sembrano regalare fama a destra e a manca, Vernon decide di chiamare una troupe televisiva per farsi riprendere durante la preparazione del suo prossimo massacro, studiato meticolosamente a tavolino.
