TRAMA

Un uomo che versa in disperate condizioni finanziarie decide di inscenare il rapimento della moglie, per ottenere un cospicuo riscatto dal ricco suocero. Deve per? impiegare i servizi di un paio di sgherri che si riveleranno non molto affidabili: finiranno per spargere del sangue molto presto e a lasciare tracce che non sfuggiranno alla brillante poliziotta Marge Gunderson, incinta di otto mesi ma dal fiuto indiscutibile.

RECENSIONE

Prima di trionfare agli Oscar nel 2008 con ?Non ? un paese per vecchi?, i fratelli Joel ed Ethan Coen si fecero gi? apprezzare presso l?Academy (e non solo) con un altro noir dalle tematiche non dissimili, ovvero ?Fargo?, film del 1996 che guadagn? sette nomination e due premi Oscar: miglior attrice protagonista, la moglie di Joel Coen Frances McDormand, e miglior sceneggiatura originale. Ambientata nelle innevate lande del Minnesota, la pellicola si presenta inizialmente come una sedicente storia vera, giocando sul fatto che agli spettatori, per credere agli eventi narrati, basta questa precisazione.
Il prosieguo ? uno spettacolo di cui ? difficile prevedere lo sviluppo, animato come ? da imprevedibili elementi quali la cupidigia e la stupidit? umana, e che vive di interessanti ed efficaci contrasti. Il primo, e pi? evidente, ? quello fra la quieta esistenza della protagonista Marge, poliziotta di un piccolo paese, ed il caotico caso che si trova prima ad analizzare e poi a risolvere. Un contrasto che ben sottolinea la natura (auto)distruttiva dell?uomo ?moderno?, non capace pi? di accontentarsi di una vita ?tranquilla?. Il secondo invece ? quello che si viene a creare fra la struttura dell?opera, classica e piuttosto lineare, e la paradossalit? di talune situazioni e personaggi, in cui ? inconfondibile la mano dei Coen, che ha come risultato quello di rendere il racconto tragicamente ironico.
Pi? che ottimo il cast, in cui ogni attore risulta perfettamente calato nella sua parte: la McDormand ? un Oscar meritato, William H. Macy ? al suo meglio nei panni di un nevrotico venditore di auto, e Steve Buscemi ?, come spesso gli capita, esilarante, nonostante il ruolo tutt?altro che comico (sar? per la sua fisionomia cos? curiosa, come sottolinea spesso il film?). Puntuali la regia ed il montaggio dei due fratelli, che qui non rinunciano, a differenza poi di quanto fatto in ?Non ? un paese per vecchi?, all?apporto di una colonna sonora, e si pu? dire fortunatamente visto il buonissimo lavoro di Carter Burwell.
