Il progetto Mechanical Butterfly nasce nel 2005 dalla collaborazione tra due chitarristi: Alessio Oranges e Dario Laletta, con il contributo di Giovanni Valastro ai fiati e alle tastiere. I due chitarristi compongono dei brani di matrice rock con varie contaminazioni musicali avvalendosi dell’uso di suoni campionati per la programmazione delle parti di batteria. In questo modo nasce il loro primo cd dal titolo omonimo.
Successivamente si sono aggiunti al gruppo Andrea Zappalà, alla batteria, e Giuseppe Padalino, al basso, entrambe già membri della cover band Aracne. Dopo qualche mese si unisce alla band anche la tastierista Laura Basile.
Nell' aprile del 2007 si unisce al gruppo Francesca Pulvirenti, voce della band.
Con l'arrivo di Francesca si raggiunge tutti insieme alla realizzazione dell' EP "Mechanical Butterfly" recensito da differenti siti e riviste. Nel 2010 si giunge ad un cambiamento di formazione, alla batteria Toti Bella, e al basso GianLorenzo Di Mauro

The Butterfly Project Mechanical was founded in 2005 by a collaboration between two guitar players: Alessio Oranges and Dario Laletta, with the help of John Valastro on horns and keyboards. The two guitarists make up the matrix rock songs with various musical influences makes use of sampled sounds to program drum parts. Thus was born their first CD with the same title.
Subsequently joined the group Andrew Zappala, on drums, and Joseph Padalino, on bass, both already members of the cover band Arachne. A few months later joined the band also keyboardist Laura Basile.
