Captain Marvel è un film di fantascienza del 2019 diretto da Anna Boden e Ryan Fleck, con Brie Larson e Samuel L. Jackson.
Vers (Brie Larson) è in addestramento su Hala, capitale dell'impero Kree, per entrare a far parte dell Starforce Intergalattica, la cui missione è quella di difendere l'universo dai malvagi invasori di altri mondi. Guidata dalla Suprema Intelligenza (Annette Bening) a capo dei Kree e dal suo mentore Yon-Rogg (Jude Law), cerca da una parte di rispondere alle aspettative dei suoi superiori, che le rammentano di come sia stata dotata di straordinari poteri per servire il suo popolo, dall'altra di ricordare chi fosse in passato, poiché non ha memoria alcuna di ciò che le è accaduto e né da dove venga realmente. Terminato l'addestramento e preso servizio nella Starforce, viene rapita durante una missione dagli alieni mutaforma Skrull, il cui leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) la sottopone a un interrogatorio mentale per cercare di scoprire la posizione di un motore a velocità della luce di cui vuole impossessarsi. Vers riesce a liberarsi e, rubando una capsula di salvataggio, arriva sulla Terra del 1995. Grazie all'interrogatorio mentale degli Skrull, è venuta a conoscenza di alcuni frammenti del suo passato e inizia indagare cercando di rintracciare le sue origini; scopre infatti di essere stata Carol Danvers, una pilota terrestre della U.S. Air Force e ripercorrendo frammenti di memoria, ritrova la sua migliore amica Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), che l'ha creduta morta fino a quel momento. Nel frattempo fa anche la conoscenza di Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), agente segreto dell'esercito americano, che attirato dai poteri della ragazza decide di seguirla.
Rintracciati dagli Skrull, Vers e Fury sono costretti a fuggire e si alleeranno per sconfiggere gli alieni, determinati a dominare la Terra. Vers intraprenderà un viaggio per riappropriarsi della sua identità, capendo di chi può fidarsi davvero e scoprendo quanto siano immensi i suoi poteri.
