In una gelida e nevosa giornata invernale del 1929, Stanlio e Ollio, musicisti senzatetto, spillano qualche soldo facendo i suonatori ambulanti in strada, vittime della grande depressione. Dopo un diverbio con una donna che fa a pezzi i loro strumenti musicali, tra la neve ritrovano un portafoglio pieno di denaro. Un ladro è già pronto per derubarli, ma un poliziotto fa evitare il peggio. In segno di riconoscenza la coppia invita il poliziotto a pranzo in un ristorante della zona. Degustate tre belle bistecche, chiedono il conto. Il poliziotto fa per pagare, ma Stanlio e Ollio lo fermano: avrebbero offerto loro il pranzo. Stanlio, aprendo il portafoglio ritrovato, vede una foto... che purtroppo ritrae il volto del poliziotto a cui vogliono offrire il pranzo!
