Stanlio è tenuto rinchiuso in casa dall'autoritaria moglie, che gli impedisce di uscire a divertirsi. Ollio, che è già fuori casa ad aspettarlo, gli telefona da una cabina pubblica all'interno di un bar. Stanlio, rispondendo al telefono, allorché si accorge che si tratta del compare, per il timore che la moglie si arrabbi, gli riattacca la cornetta in faccia, fingendo di non riconoscerlo. Ollio, perplesso, chiama e richiama Stanlio, che séguita a riappendere, scatenando l'ira del grasso amico, che dà apertamente in escandescenze allorché Stanlio, ad un'ennesima richiamata, lo apostrofa con l'espressione "Chi è questo scocciatore?". Ollio sfoga la sua rabbia contro il telefono, suscitando l'ilarità della gente intorno a lui.
