Anno 2021. La giovane Margot (E. Bader), con l’aiuto dell’amico cameraman Chris (R. Buck III), vuole girare un documentario sulla sua comunità natale, quella degli Amish sita in Pennsylvania; Margot sa solo che la madre Sarah ha vissuto lì e, quando rimase incinta, la abbandonò lontana da quella comunità. Grazie ad un sito di genetica, la ragazza scopre il suo parente più prossimo, Samuel Beiler (H. Ayres-Brown), l’Amish che li condurrà nella fattoria Beiler. Al trio si aggiunge il tecnico del suono Dale (D. Lippert). I quattro giovani, dopo un lungo viaggio, giungono finalmente nella fattoria dove Sarah passò anni ed anni. Inizialmente accolti con freddezza, Margot, Chris e Dale cominciano a farsi accettare da questa comunità piuttosto chiusa, antica e rituale, guidata dal patriarca Jacob (T. Nowicki). Margot incomincia a fare qualche domanda sulla madre e sui motivi che la spinsero a scappare via: riceve tuttavia sempre vaghe ed ambigue risposte. Una notte la ragazza scorge dalla finestra tante candele che si dirigono verso la foresta vicina: dopo aver chiesto spiegazioni, Samuel le dice che si trattava di una celebrazione di caccia. Ma le stranezze non sono finite: spesso la notte si sentono passi provenire dal piano di sopra che però è abbandonato da anni. Inoltre Chris nota con un drone una chiesa poco dopo la foresta; Jacob proibisce categoricamente al gruppo di avvicinarsi in quanto luogo sacro. Troppi misteri avvolgono la congregazione Beiler e di ciò ne è straconvinta Margot che non interromperà il documentario fino a quando non avrà trovato le risposte che cerca..
