Driver (Dwayne Johnson) ha le idee chiare su quello che farà appena varcate le soglie della prigione: vendicare la morte del fratello, sgozzato durante la rapina finita male che ha portato alla sua incarcerazione. Dopo aver scontato una condanna di dieci anni, l'ex autista di una banda criminale si mette sulle tracce degli assassini, i cui nomi sono impressi in una lunga lista, e corrispondono ai membri di una banda rivale, intervenuta all'epoca per rubare il bottino dei suoi. Braccato da un poliziotto tossicodipendente (Billy Bob Thornton), ormai prossimo alla pensione, e dalla sua collega Cicero (Carla Gugino) che vorrebbe agire in solitaria e condurre le indagini a modo suo, l'ex carcerato finisce anche nel mirino di un killer psicopatico (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), sicario dal grilletto facile, omicida per passione e ingaggiato a solo un dollaro per eliminarlo.
