Dopo le ricadute sia psicologiche che fisiche della pornografia, sembrava improbabile che qualcuno avrebbe mai più sentito parlare dei Cure. Sorprendentemente, dal 1982 al 1983 Robert Smith e (ora tastierista) Lol Tolhurst pubblicarono alcuni dei singoli più accattivanti della loro carriera. "Let's Go to Bed", "The Walk" e "The Lovecats" non sono stati solo i singoli che hanno ottenuto la trasmissione radiofonica dei Cure e li hanno resi un nome familiare, ma soprattutto hanno segnato la fase successiva nella musica dei Cure, che sarebbe raggiunge il suo apice con album come Head on the Door e Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.
