Parlando nel 1969, Bergman identifica Fårö come una piccola isola vicino a Gotland, con una popolazione di 754 abitanti, rispetto ai 1.100 di 40 anni prima; fu fusa nel comune più grande di Gotland.
Erland Wallin, sindaco, in un'intervista afferma che le persone delle aree periferiche al di fuori dei centri urbani spesso si sentono trascurate.
Bergman mostra che la gente di Fårö non viene trattata con uguaglianza rispetto agli altri nelle aree urbane: i giovani non hanno un luogo di ritrovo, le scuole mancano di fondi, le famiglie non hanno asili nido e l'intervistato Arvid Andersson è frustrato dal fatto che i suoi sforzi per costruire un ponte sul Fårö Sound non ottengano riscontro.
