In Viaggio Verso Un Sogno, film diretto Tyler Nilson e Michael Schwartz, è la storia di Zack (Zack Gottsagen), un giovane di 22 anni con la sindrome di Down con un sogno nel cassetto: diventare un wrestler professionista e iscriversi alla scuola di wrestling The Salt Water Redneck, gestita dal suo idolo. Per inseguire questo sogno, una notte Zach fugge dalla casa di cura del Nord Carolina, dove vive. Durante la sua fuga il ragazzo incontra un piccolo criminale, Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), un ricercato che si improvviserà suo allenatore, diventando al contempo amico del giovane. L'incontro tra i due avviene un po' per caso, quando Tyler trova riparo sulla barca in cui si nasconde Zack e, nonostante accetti la presenza del ragazzo durante il viaggio, è deciso a separarsi da lui non appena raggiungeranno la costa. Quando Tyler, però, assiste a una scena di bullismo ai danni di Zack, si convince a non lasciarlo solo e ad accompagnarlo in Florida per coronare il sogno del giovane.
La strana coppia vivrà diverse esperienze insieme; infatti, mentre cercano di sfuggire alle forze dell'ordine, condivideranno qualche bicchiere di whisky e altri momenti semplici e indimenticabili. Nel loro viaggio i due riusciranno a coinvolgere anche Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), impiegata nella casa di cura e con un passato molto particolare.
