Nascosto Nel Buio è un film del 2005 diretto da John Polson. La vita di David Callaway (Robert De Niro), uno stimato psicologo di New York, è sconvolta dall’improvviso suicidio di sua moglie Allison (Amy Irving). Non riuscendo a superare il trauma, acuito dal senso di inettitudine per non aver compreso la profonda crisi che sua moglie stava attraversando prima di commettere il gesto estremo, David decide di abbandonare la città e trasferirsi a nord con la figlia Emily (Dakota Fanning). La bambina, scioccata dai recenti avvenimenti, si mostra introversa e taciturna e sviluppa una passione per scherzi teatrali ed inquietanti. Emily trascorre molto tempo a parlare con l’amico immaginario Charlie, abitudine che David trascura associandola alla manifestazione per il rifiuto della morte di Allison.
Quando David inizia a frequentare l’affascinante Elizabeth Young (Elisabeth Shue), l’atteggiamento della piccola Emily si fa sempre più ostile e confessa a suo padre che Charlie ha intenzione di ucciderla. Poco tempo dopo, Elizabeth viene assassinata come descritto da Emily e David si convince che Charlie possa una persona reale. Mentre i suoi sospetti ricadono sul vicino, la bambina diventa bersaglio delle minacce di Charlie e scopre la vera identità del suo amico immaginario. Terrorizzata, la Emily chiama in suo soccorso la psicologa Katherine Carson (Famke Janssen). Avendo compreso che Emily si trova in pericolo di vita, Katherine corre in suo soccorso prima che possa essere troppo tardi…
