Alice attraverso lo specchio, un film del 2016 diretto da James Bobin, è liberamente ispirato all’omonimo romanzo di Lewis Carroll e sequel di Alice in Wonderland. Sono trascorsi tre anni da quando Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) ha fatto ritorno dal Sottomondo. La giovane ha seguito le orme del padre, diventando un abile capitano nautico. La sua vita avventurosa, tuttavia, rischia di terminare a causa del ricatto del suo ex fidanzato, Hamish Alcott. Decisa a non cedere la sua nave, Alice segue il Brucaliffo (Alan Rickman), divenuto farfalla, nel Sottomondo. Qui Alice è festosamente accolta dalla Regina Bianca (Anne Hathaway), Bianconiglio, Pincopanco e Pancopinco, lo Stregatto e tutti i suoi vecchi amici, che la informano della grave situazione del Cappellaio Matto (Johnny Depp).
Alimentato dalla convinzione che la sua famiglia riuscì a sopravvivere all’attacco del Ciciarampa, infatti, il Cappellaio ha perduto la sua allegria. Alice decide di aiutare l’amico e parte a cercare il Tempo (Sacha Baron Cohen). Nel bizzarro palazzo, la ragazza si imbatte nella Cronosfera, marchingegno che permette di viaggiare nel tempo e decide di rubarla per tornare al giorno orristraziante. Ma anche una vecchia nemica vorrebbe impossessarsi dell’oggetto per cambiare il suo futuro. Il viaggio nel tempo, permette ad Alice di scoprire il passato della regina Bianca e della Regina Rossa (Helena Bonham Carter), che le fa rivalutare la natura malvagia della perfida regina. Dopo numerosi inseguimenti e sbalzi temporali, la ragazza osserverà il passato del Cappellaio e scoprirà la vera sorte della famiglia. Alterare il tempo, tuttavia, avrà delle conseguenze molto gravi sul Sottomondo e Alice dovrà rimediare al più presto, per salvare i suoi amici e sperare di far ritorno dall’amata madre.
