Ed Sheeran non è il tuo cantautore da giardino: l'inglese interpreta sia un disinvolto trovatore - stagionato e maturo come Van Morrison nella dolcemente rock "Thinking Out Loud" - sia un introspettivo parvenu che rappa, beatbox e strimpella la sua strada attraverso "Hai bisogno di me, io non ho bisogno di te". È una combinazione vincente, specialmente se abbinata al talento di Sheeran per la narrazione vivida e appassionata. E suona bene anche con gli altri, fungendo da presenza calda e gentile nei duetti con Taylor Swift e Christina Perri e al fianco di rapper come Lupe Fiasco e felpa con cappuccio Allen.
