L'uomo con i pugni i ferro, il film diretto da RZA, ambientato in un leggendario villaggio della Cina del XIX Secolo, segue la storia di Taddeus Blacksmith (RZA), un tempo schiavo afroamericano, che dopo esserci liberato si è trasferito in estremo oriente, dove aiutato ed educato da alcuni monaci buddisti, è ora divenuto il fabbro della città.
Il villaggio è popolato da diverse bande di guerrieri e Blacksmith, uomo pacato e con un talento per il Kung fu, sarà costretto dalle due famiglie rivali della zona a costruire armi sempre più invincibili. Il suo obiettivo è quello di accumulare più soldi possibili per riuscire a liberare la sua amata Lady Silk (Jamie Chung), dal bordello "The Pink Blossom" in cui lavora.
Il governatore ordina a Gold Lion (Kuan Tai Chen), il capo del clan dei Lions, di scortare fino a Nord un carico d’oro per i suoi guerrieri, ma durante una controversia con il clan Hyena, Gold viene tradito e ucciso dai suoi sostituti grazie anche all'aiuto di Poison Dagger (Daniel Wu), esperto di veleni. L’oro viene così rubato e Silver (Byron Mann), divenuto il nuovo leader dei Lions, è intenzionato ad assalire il clan dei Wolf per dimostrare la forza del suo gruppo. Thaddeus si troverà così in una posizione scomoda, visto che deve fornire armi alle entrambi fazioni in conflitto.
La situazione si complica ulteriormente quando fa il suo arrivo in città Jack Knife (Russell Crowe), mercenario inglese pagato dall’imperatore per trovare i responsabili dell'omicidio di Gold Lion.
Nel momento i cui la guerra tra i diversi clan si fa sempre più sanguinosa e incalzante, Taddeus per salvare se stesso e il suo popolo, si trasformerà in una spietata arma umana...
