Benvenuti a ieri, film di fantascienza diretto da Dean Israelite, segue le vicende di David (Jonny Weston), un brillante studente che frequenta l’ultimo anno del liceo. Grazie alla sua intelligenza si aggiudica una borsa di studio di cinquemila dollari per il Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sebbene ne sia lusingato, il ragazzo non può permettersi l’intero costo della facoltà. Per non fargli perdere questa occasione, sua madre Kathy (Amy Landecker), ormai vedova da tempo, decide di vendere la sua casa.
Nel frattempo David decide di partecipare a un concorso scientifico della scuola. Così inizia a lavorare al suo progetto sperimentale partendo dai vecchi documenti di suo padre, scienziato fai da te, e aiutato dalla fedelissima sorella Christina (Virginia Gardner), che riprende ogni passo con la telecamera e alcuni amici. L’idea è quella di creare una macchina del tempo e, con grande sorpresa di tutti, l’esperimento riesce. Il gruppetto di improvvisati inventori comincia a viaggiare nel passato cercando di cancellare una scelta di cui si sono pentiti. Tuttavia, cambiare qualcosa del proprio ieri, determina inevitabilmente che le cose cambino anche nel presente. La situazione si complica proprio quando David modifica le sue scelte per far innamorare di lui Jessie (Sofia Black D'Elia), la ragazza per la quale ha perso la testa, dando il via a una serie di eventi disastrosi… Riuscirà il giovane studente a sistemare questo pasticcio?
