Green Book, il film diretto da Peter Farrelly, racconta del buttafuori Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), un italoamericano con un'educazione piuttosto sommaria che nel 1962 venne assunto come autista da Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), uno dei pianisti jazz più famosi al mondo. Lo scopo? Guidarlo da New York fino agli stati del Sud, in posti dove i diritti civili degli afroamericani sono ben lontani dall'essere legittimamente acquisiti.Shirley si affida per il viaggio al libro Negro Motorist Green Book: una mappa di motel, ristoranti e pompe di benzina in cui anche gli afroamericani sono ben accolti.
