Nella cittadina francese in cui fa il poliziotto, Alain (Jean-Claude Van Damme) trova un giorno, al termine di un rocambolesco inseguimento, un morto che gli somiglia in modo impressionante. Scopre che si tratta di suo fratello gemello Mikhail, di cui ignorava l'esistenza. Per capire in quali attività fosse implicato, Alain decide di partire per New York e, fingendosi l'altro, entra nel malfamato quartiere di Little Odessa, dove il fratello muoveva i propri loschi traffici. Verifica ben presto che tutte le tracce della vita di Mikhail stanno scomparendo e la persona che lo conosceva meglio, la bella Alex (Natasha Henstridge), non può e non vuole rivelate tutto.
