Plot: Al centro della storia c'è la rivalità tra due coppie: Checco Puricelli, innamorato di Fernanda, ed il marchese Lollo, invaghito della duchessina Elisa. Il guaio è che Checco si atteggia a conte, conte Tacchia per l'appunto, in quanto, essendo figlio d'un falegname, porta sempre in saccoccia qualche cuneo di legno, le "tacchie", per assicurare l'equilibrio di mobili e stipetti. Il sincero amore che lo lega a Fernanda non gli impedisce di pedinare la duchessina, per cui gli si scatena contro il risentimento e l'odio del marchese Lollo.
Rome, 1910. Checco Puricelli, the son of a carpenter, is called "Conte Tacchia" ("Count Wooden Wedge" because of his obsession with the aristocracy. He dresses fancy and tries to act as a nobleman with the help of the old Prince Torquato. One evening a young noblewoman begins to take interest in him, and Checco will soon find himself entangled in the treacherous world of the Roman aristocracy.
