Mark Hogancamp mette in scena nel proprio prato
le gesta di un suo alter ego di nome Hogie in un
fittizio villaggio belga, durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
Hogie è un pilota americano in lotta contro i nazisti e
protetto dalle donne di Marwen, che sono poi la
trasfigurazione delle donne che hanno aiutato Mark
durante la sua terapia. Egli è infatti reduce da un pestaggio
di natura omofoba e da una lunga ma insufficiente riabilitazione,
tanto da aver perso sia la memoria sia la capacità di disegnare.
