Federico, un giovane appena giunto dalla provincia a Roma in cerca di lavoro, viene investito dalla automobile del direttore di un grande magazzino: il suo rifiuto di sfruttare la situazione, induce l'investitore ad assumerlo come ascensorista. Il ragazzo, che prende servizio immediatamente, fa la conoscenza di Laura, una commessa, e di sua cugina Marina, altra commessa e aspirante cantante. Una gita al Terminillo facilita l'amicizia tra Laura e Federico, ma provoca anche le reazioni di Alberto Martini, ispettore del grande magazzino e innamorato di Laura. L'ispettore, infatti, sottraendo una busta contenente una bolletta di scarico fa incolpare Laura del furto d'un completo da sei e la fa sospendere in attesa d'accertamenti. Federico, allora, introducendosi arditamente nell'ufficio dello sleale Martini scopre l'inganno e scagiona Laura dimostrandole il suo sincero amore.
Federico, a young man just arrived from the province in Rome in search of work, is hit by the car of the director of a department store: his refusal to exploit the situation, causes the investor to hire him as an elevator. The boy, who immediately takes service, meets Laura, a saleswoman, and his cousin Marina, another saleswoman and aspiring singer. A trip to Terminillo facilitates the friendship between Laura and Federico, but also provokes the reactions of Alberto Martini, inspector of the department store and in love with Laura. In fact, the inspector, by subtracting an envelope containing a discharge bill, blames Laura for the theft of a six-piece suit and causes her to suspend while awaiting investigation. Federico, then, boldly introducing himself into the office of the disloyal Martini discovers the deception and exonerates Laura by showing her his sincere love.
