Emigranti italiani, i fratelli Primo e Secondo Pileggi si sono stabiliti a New York dove hanno aperto un ristorante che fatica a decollare. Primo è il capocuoco e cerca di proporre una cucina genuina e di qualità, Secondo si occupa degli affari e cerca di far funzionare il locale. Quando viene a sapere che il famoso musicista Louis Prima sta suonando in quella zona, cerca di farlo venire anche nel proprio locale e, grazie all'appoggio di Pascal, esperto uomo d'affari del posto, la cosa sembra riuscire. Tutto allora viene rivolto alla preparazione della serata-evento: il ristorante viene abbellito, si fanno gli inviti, Primo si dedica alla preparazione di un menù particolare. All'ora di cena, arrivano le persone, parte la musica, qualcuno balla, poi si dà il via alla cena, sempre nell'attesa dell'ospite che però non arriva. Il musicista in realtà non era mai stato invitato, Pascal aveva barato, e questo diventa motivo di lite grossa tra i fratelli. Primo vorrebbe tornare in Italia dove lo aspetta un posto di cuoco a Roma, Secondo vuole insistere in America. All'alba, Secondo prepara una frittata per il fratello nel locale ormai vuoto. I due si abbracciano senza parlare.
Italian immigrants, the Primo and Secondo Pileggi brothers settled in New York where they opened a restaurant that was struggling to take off. Primo is the chef and tries to offer a genuine and quality cuisine, Secondo takes care of the business and tries to make the place work. When he learns that the famous musician Louis Prima is playing in that area, he tries to make it come to his own club and, thanks to the support of Pascal, an expert local businessman, it seems to succeed. Everything is then turned to the preparation of the evening-event: the restaurant is embellished, the invitations are made, Primo is dedicated to the preparation of a particular menu. At dinner time, people arrive, music starts, someone dances, then the dinner starts, always waiting for the guest who does not arrive. The musician had never actually been invited, Pascal had cheated, and this became a reason for a big fight between the brothers. First, he would like to return to Italy, where a chef's place in Rome awaits him, Secondo wants to insist in America. At dawn, Secondo prepares an omelette for his brother in the now empty room. The two hug each other without speaking.
