Don Gaetano Morelli, parroco di Castelfranco Tiberino, venuto a Roma per un udienza papale, salva dal suicidio un ex-calciatore disperato: Manuel Marangoni. Ora, secondo Manuel, non basta che Don Gaetano gli abbia salvato la vita: lo deve anche mantenere assieme alla sua ragazza. E' così che la strana coppia prende alloggio in canonica, mettendo successivamente in subbuglio il paese e i dintorni con inganni, truffe ed anche un falso miracolo pur di fare soldi. Intanto Don Gaetano, oppresso dall'infatuazione amorosa di Margherita, la sua perpetua, che gli fa trovare ovunque tenere poesie, pensa di porre un rimedio alle diavoleriedi Manuel affidandogli, come allenatore, la locale squadra di calcio. Dopo una lunga serie di avventure, pasticci e fughe, Manuel compare sul campo di gioco durante l'ultima partita decisiva perché la squadra di Castelfranco Tiberino sia promossa in serie C e la guida alla sospirata vittoria.
Don Gaetano Morelli, parish priest of Castelfranco Tiberino, came to Rome for a papal audience, save from suicide an ex-footballer desperate: Manuel Marangoni. Now, according to Manuel, it is not enough for Don Gaetano to save his life: he must also keep him together with his girlfriend. This is how the strange couple takes up residence in the canonical, then subduing the village and surroundings with deception, scams and even a false miracle in order to make money. Meanwhile, Don Gaetano, oppressed by Margherita's loving infatuation, his perpetuity, who makes him find poetry everywhere, thinks he can remedy Manuel's diabolics by entrusting him, as a coach, to the local football team. After a long series of adventures, slashes and leaps, Manuel appears on the playing field during the last decisive match because Castelfranco Tiberino's team is promoted to C series and the lead to the sighing victory.
