Nella New York all'epoca della grande crisi economica, Charlie, campione di catch, e Sonny, inserviente in una palestra di lotta giapponese, si fanno assoldare - sognando la ricchezza - da Angelo, un boss della malavita, soprannominato "Sorriso". Il boss, colpito dalla loro abilità nel menar le mani, affida a essi il compito di riscuotere le tangenti, che i disgraziati negozianti di Little Italy devono versare per avere la sua protezione. Duri di pugni, ma non di cuore, i due, anziché farsi pagare dalle vittime di Sorriso, finiscono per aiutarle di tasca propria. Promossi killer e inviati a uccidere i membri di una banda rivale, non eseguono l'incarico, mancando loro l'animo di diventare assassini. Riusciti, spacciandosi per agenti speciali del governo, a evitare l'arresto da parte di un solerte, quanto ingenuo ispettore di polizia, intuiscono che Angelo, avvertito da una spia, ha scoperto la loro natura di buone paste: cercano di svignarsela, ma Charlie finisce nelle mani di Sorriso. Grazie alla sua astuzia e all'intervento di Sonny, evita però una brutta fine. Al termine di una gigantesca scazzottata, Angelo e la sua banda vanno in galera, mentre Charlie, con Sonny per secondo, riprende a esibirsi sul ring.
In New York at the time of the great economic crisis, Charlie, a catch champion, and Sonny, a Japanese fighter gymnasium, are hired - dreaming of wealth - by Angelo, a boss of the underworld, nicknamed "Smile." The boss, hit by their ability to manage their hands, entrusts them with the task of collecting the bribes that the unfortunate merchants of Little Italy have to pay for their protection. Hard punches, but not heartily, the two, instead of being charged by Smile victims, end up helping them out of their own pocket. Promoted killers and sent to kill members of a rival band, they do not execute, lacking their minds to become assassin. Succeeded, by special government agents, to avoid being arrested by a lazy, how naive police inspector, they realize that Angelo, warned by a spy, discovered their nature of good pasta: they try to unleash it, but Charlie Ends in the hands of Smile. Thanks to his cleverness and Sonny's intervention, he avoids a bad end. At the end of a gigantic scuffle, Angelo and his band go to jail, while Charlie, with Sonny for a second, resumes playing on the ring.
