Butch Cassidy e Sundance Kid, amici inseparabili, con una piccola banda assalgono e derubano le banche delle zone vicine al loro rifugio, quindi si ritirano in una casetta dove li attende Etta, una giovane maestrina che, innamorata di Kid, li accudisce soffrendo per la loro vita disperata. Dopo aver derubato un treno della "Union Pacific", saputo che la compagnia li attende al varco, essi sfidano la minaccia assalendo un altro convoglio. Ma mentre stanno raccogliendo il bottino, alcuni uomini della compagnia li sorprendono senza riuscire però a fermarli. Butch e Kid riescono a fuggire, inseguiti per giorni interi finché, ormai circondati, con un atto spericolato evitano la cattura. Sapendosi braccati, decidono di espatriare e raggiungono la Bolivia dove continuano le loro gesta, favoriti anche dalla scarsa efficienza della polizia locale. Decisi a porre fine alla loro attività, lasciano partire Etta e quini fanno il loro ultimo colpo derubando un carico di denaro destinato alle miniere. Ma, tornati in città, sono riconosciuti e, circondati da un folto gruppo di soldati...
Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid, inseparable friends, with a small gang assault and robbing banks in areas near their shelter, then retreat to a small lodge where Etta, a young maestrina who, in love with Kid, cares for them suffering from Their desperate life. After robbing a Union Pacific train, knowing that the company is waiting for them, they challenge the threat by attacking another convoy. But while they are picking up the booty, some men of the company surprise them, but they can not stop them. Butch and Kid manage to escape, chased for whole days as long as they are surrounded by a reckless act to avoid capture. Knowing they are hunted, they decide to expatriate and reach Bolivia where their actions continue, favored by the low efficiency of local police. Determined to end their business, they leave Etta and they make their last strike by robbing a burden of money for mines. But, back in the city, they are recognized and surrounded by a large group of soldiers ...
