Giacomino, studente fuoricorso ventiseienne, assediato da due genitori fin troppo disposti alla benevolenza, decide di farsi regalare per il suo compleanno i soldi per andare a vivere finalmente da solo, così da potersi sentire "libero" in tutti i sensi. Trovata una malconcia mansarda in palazzo senza ascensore comincia la sua vita da scapolo pieno di speranze gaudenti, immediatamente frustrate dall'invadente signor Giuseppe, suo ex vicino di casa cacciato dalla moglie. Giuseppe comincia una maldestra opera di erudizione sessuale di Giacomino, ma presto arriva tra loro Françoise, una bella francese alla "ricerca dell'uomo giusto". La ragazza non si accorge dell'amore che Giacomino nutre per lei, ed ha inizio così una serie di disavventure che culminerà nel matrimonio finale tra Giacomino e Françoise, i quali, sfrattati dalla mansarda per il ritorno del padrone di casa, andranno a vivere in una tenda su una terrazza milanese.
Giacomino, a twenty-six-year-old student, besieged by two parents who are too willing to benevolence, decides to give birth to his birthday to go live alone, so that he can feel "free" in all senses. Founded by a lazy mansard in the building without elevator, his life began as a bachelor full of cheerful hopes, immediately frustrated by the inviting Mr. Giuseppe, his former ex-wife being driven out of his wife. Giuseppe begins a malevolent work of Giacomino's sexual erudition, but soon comes Françoise, a beautiful Frenchman, to "search for the right man." The girl does not notice the love Giacomino feeds for her, and so begins a series of disadvantages that culminate in the final marriage between Giacomino and Françoise, who, evicted from the mansard for the return of the landlord, will live in A tent on a terrace in Milan.
