Camillone Bruno, un giovane senza arte né parte, viene incaricato da un amico di recarsi a Lisbona per prelevarvi merce che scotta. A tale scopo gli viene dato un passaporto intestato ad un certo Salvatore Bruschetta. Fermato dalla polizia allo scalo aereo, Camillone finisce recluta in caserma perché ha usurpato l'identità di un richiamato e non ha modo di spiegarsi senza incappare in guai peggiori. La vita di caserma viene contraddistinta da diversi incidenti, non di rado dovuti all'inettitudine del protagonista, e qualche volta dipendenti dal caso avverso. Le persecuzioni del sergente Nardi, mentre impediscono a Bruno di mettersi in contatto con la banda che lo ha messo nei guai, lo costringono a missioni sempre più disastrose. La relazione con Tamara, già fidanzata con il latitante sergente Favilla, gli fa sperare in qualche successo amoroso e invece lo aggrava di ulteriori fastidi. Quando finalmente, finito il periodo di leva, il soldato Bruschetta viene dimesso e riprende il proprio nome, trova a casa propria i carabinieri che lo reclutano come Camillone e lo rispediscono alla medesima caserma.
Camillone Bruno, a young man without art or part, is asked by a friend to go to Lisbon to pick you up hot goods. To this end it is given a passport in the name at some Salvatore Bruschetta. Stopped by the police at the airport in, Camillone ends recruits in the barracks because he usurped the identity of a called back and no way to explain without running into more trouble. The examiner is marked by several accidents, often due ineptitude of the protagonist, and sometimes dependent on the case against. The persecutions of the Nardi sergeant, while preventing Bruno to get in touch with the band that put him in trouble, force him to increasingly disastrous missions. The relationship with Tamara, already engaged to the fugitive Favilla sergeant, makes him hope for some good success and instead makes it worse by further harassment. When he finally finished his military term, the soldier Bruschetta is discharged and takes its name, located in the house's the police who recruit as Camillone and send him back to the same barracks.
