A Milano, di notte, Giacomo suona a casa di Giovanni. Questi va ad aprire, lo vede e gli sbatte la porta in faccia. E' Aldo ad intervenire, dicendo che per conoscere i fatti bisogna tornare indietro. Tre anni prima. Il terzetto vive in grande amicizia. Li accomuna il sogno di mettere in scena il Cyrano di Bergerac. Ma intanto, per vivere, Aldo fa la comparsa al teatro dell'Opera; Giovanni ha il ruolo di statua vivente in un centro commerciale; Giacomo fa il doppiatore di serial e telefilm. Anche la vita sentimentale non li lascia tranquilli. Aldo proclama di non avere legami, ma in realtà ne ha uno molto intenso con Silvana che lo tiene ben stretto. Giacomo fantastica di favolose storie d'amore, mentre Giovanni pensa a come cambiare la propria vita e lasciare il suo lavoro insopportabile. Grazie ad un equivoco (uno scambio di portoni), Giovanni conosce un giorno una ragazza, Marina, di cui subito si innamora. Lei fa la hostess, e Giovanni, per frequentarla, cerca di organizzare una cena nella nuova casa dove i tre sono andati ad abitare. Ma le cose non vanno per il verso giusto.
In Milan, at night, James plays at home of John. These answers the door, sees him and slams the door in his face. And 'Aldo to intervene, saying that to know the facts you need to go back. Three years earlier. The trio live in great friendship. They share the dream of staging the Cyrano de Bergerac.
