Romolo e Salvatore sono due giovani romani, che hanno molta voglia di divertirsi, ma poca voglia di lavorare, vivono di espedienti e di speranze più o meno fondate. Romolo è fidanzato con Anna Maria, sorella di Salvatore, e questi è promesso a Marisa, sorella di Romolo. Le due ragazze vorrebbero sposarsi presto, ma i fidanzati non hanno alcuna fretta di giungere al matrimonio, che le loro precarie condizioni finanziarie rendono ad ogni modo impensabile per il momento. I due giovani s'iscrivono ad una scuola serale, ma mentre Romolo studia con profitto radiotecnica, Salvatore si fa cacciare dalla sorella. Si rivolge ad altre attività, corre dietro alle più disparate illusioni, senza giungere mai ad un risultato concreto. Marisa invece ha trovato un posto di cassiera in una calzoleria. La vita sentimentale delle due coppie di fidanzati è un po' turbata in seguito al riaffacciarsi di Giovanna, che in passato è stata fidanzata prima all'uno poi all'altro dei due giovani. Ora è fidanzata con Franco, giovane facoltoso, che grazie all'interessamento di Giovanna presta a Romolo la somma necessaria per aprire un piccolo negozio di radiotecnico. A Giovanna non dispiace eccitare nuovamente l'interesse dei due antichi fidanzati, specialmente di Romolo, ma solo nell'intento di destare la gelosia di Franco, inducendolo ad affrettare le nozze. Intanto Salvatore, temendo di essere abbandonato definitivamente da Marisa, decide di procurarsi del denaro a qualunque costo e si mette in contatto con uno scassinatore. Fortunatamente Marisa ed Anna Maria riescono a dissuaderlo in tempo da ogni iniziativa disonesta. Alla fine l'amore trionfa su tutta la linea. Giovanna respinge il corteggiamento di Romolo che ritorna alla sua Anna Maria, Salvatore e Marisa si riconciliano e la vicenda si concluderà con un triplice matrimonio, giacché anche Franco rompe gli indugi e si decide ad impalmare Giovanna.
Romolo and Salvatore are two young Romans, who really want to have fun, but little desire to work, live by their wits and more or less justified expectations. Romulus is engaged to Anna Maria, sister of Salvatore, and these are promised to Marisa, sister of Romulus. The two girls want to get married soon, but the engaged couple are in no hurry to come to the wedding, that their precarious financial conditions make it anyway unthinkable for the moment. The two young men enrolling at a night school, but while Romulus studied with radio equipment profits, Salvatore you hunt from her sister.
