Un fantafilm "ricercato" e vertiginoso
Prima di diventare il gioiello della Confraternita, un gruppo armato di giustizieri agli ordini del Fato, Weasley Gibson era un impiegato anonimo e ipocondriaco, vessato da una dirigente "abbondantemente" insopportabile e tradito dal migliore amico con la fidanzata petulante. Abbordato alla cassa di un drugstore da una donna killer tutta tatuaggi e pistole, Wes scopre che i suoi attacchi di panico nascondono poteri ultrasensoriali e capacità fisiche sbalorditive. Allenato dalla Confraternita a pugni in faccia e fendenti affilati, viene iniziato all'arte della vendetta "giusta": uccidere i "cattivi", nominati da un arcano telaio. La sua missione sarà quella di eliminare il superkiller che ha ucciso il padre mai conosciuto. Ma l'antica organizzazione di superassassini, che da secoli protegge l'umanità, annientando il Male e facendo il Bene, nasconde un segreto. Spetterà a Wes svelarlo, imparando a controllare il proprio destino.
Il film è vagamente ispirato all'omonima miniserie a fumetti Wanted, scritta da Mark Millar e disegnata da J. G. Jones. Si tratta del primo lungometraggio tratto da una serie pubblicata per l'etichetta Millarworld di cui Wanted è stata la prima serie pubblicata (tramite la casa editrice Image Comics). Gli altri film della linea Millarworld sono stati Kick-Ass (2010), Kick-Ass 2 (2013) e Kingsman - Secret Service (2014).
