Si tratta del remake dell'omonimo film Profumo di donna del 1974, diretto da Dino Risi ed interpretato da Vittorio Gassman e Alessandro Momo.
Charlie Simms è studente presso una prestigiosa scuola del New England, pur non provenendo da una famiglia agiata come la maggior parte dei suoi compagni. Per pagarsi il viaggio in aereo che gli avrebbe permesso di tornare dalla sua famiglia per Natale, Charlie accetta un lavoro temporaneo durante il week-end del Ringraziamento per fare da accompagnatore a Frank Slade, un tenente colonnello in pensione cieco, dal carattere scorbutico e dedito al bere, deciso a finire in bellezza la propria vita. Così ha scelto Manhattan per ubriacarsi di follie prima del suicidio. A fargli cambiare idea sarà il senso di protezione per il ragazzo, messosi nei guai col preside del suo istituto.
Quella di Al Pacino è una grande interpretazione, premiata con l'Oscar al miglior attore protagonista.
